1) Who Won The 1996 Royal Rumble Match?
Shawn Michaels won the 1996 Royal Rumble match. This came after last eliminating Diesel. Shawn entered the match in the number 18 spot. He compiled 8 eliminations throughout the match. With the win, he earned a WWF World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania XI. Michaels would go on to win the title at Wrestlemania. He defeated Bret Hart in a 60-minute Iron Man match for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship.
This was the second straight year that Michaels won the Royal Rumble match. He also won the year before in 1995.
2) Who won the 1996 King of the Ring Tournament?
Stone Cold Steve Austin defeated Jake Roberts in the 1996 King of the Ring finals. This is the match where Austin cut the legendary ‘Austin 3:16’ promo afterward. As we all know, he went on to become one of the biggest stars in pro-wrestling history. Austin defeated Savio Vega, Marc Mero, and Bob Holly in the previous rounds of the tournament.
It has been well-publicized that Triple H was actually supposed to win the 1996 King of the Ring tournament. After he was involved in the infamous curtain call incident, Vince McMahon was forced to punish him. His punishment included not having him win the King of the Ring. Instead, Steve Austin won the tournament and cut one of the most legendary promos of all time. This helped skyrocket his career to the moon. It is funny how things seem to work out. Austin became one of the biggest stars in wrestling history. Triple H also did just fine for himself, winning the 1997 King of the Ring tournament.
3) Where Was Wrestlemania XII (1996) Held?
Wrestlemania XII took place at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California. This was the first time that Wrestlemania was held in Anaheim. It was the third time that the event was held in the state of California. Wrestlemania 2 and 7 were held in Los Angeles. Wrestlemania XII had an attendance of 18,853.
The Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim was also the host of Wrestlemania 2000 only a few years later.
4) The Main Event Of Wrestlemania XII (1996) was Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels In An Iron Man Match. What Was The Final Score?
Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart 1 fall to 0. This went to sudden death overtime after they went to an initial draw. This was the first televised iron man match in WWE history. This was the only Iron Man match of Bret Hart’s career. Shawn would go on to compete in one more on the October 3rd, 2005 episode of Monday Night RAW. Michaels and Kurt Angle went to a 2-2 draw.
5) What was the main event match of Summerslam 1996?
The main event of Summerslam 1996 was Shawn Michaels vs Vader. This was for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship. Michaels ended up defeating Vader to retain the Championship.
6) Who did the Undertaker defeat at Wrestlemania XII (1996)?
The Undertaker defeated Diesel at Wrestlemania XII. This win brought The Undertaker’s undefeated streak to 5-0.
7) Who on this list did NOT hold the WWF Title at some point during 1996?
Diesel was the only person mentioned that didn’t hold the WWF Championship in 1996. Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, and Psycho Sid all held the belt at some point during the year. Diesel’s only WWF Title reign started in later 1994. After holding it for almost a year, he dropped the belt to Bret Hart.
The longest reign was Shawn, who held the belt for 231 days in 1996 before dropping the belt to Sid.
8) What PPV Did The Rock (Rocky Maivia) Wrestle His First Match At In 1996?
The Rock (Rocky Maivia) had his first match at Survivor Series 1996. Maivia, Jake Roberts, Marc Mero, and The Stalker defeated Crush, Goldust Jerry Lawler, and Hunter Hearst Helmsley. This was a Survivor Series elimination match. Rocky was the sole survivor for his team.
This was an example of the major push that Rocky was getting in his early career by WWE. After getting rejected by fans, he eventually changed to ‘The Rock’. The rest is history. The Rock is not only one of the biggest stars in pro-wrestling history, he is also one of the biggest movie stars on the planet.
9) Which Of These Was NOT An ‘In Your House’ Event That Happened In 1996?
The answer is In Your House 14: Revenge of the ‘Taker. This event took place in 1997, not 1996. Good Friends, Better Enemies, International Incident, and Buried Alive all took place in 1996.
